About this appAI proposal
Stillroom is a photo catalog and editor for photographers who shoot a lot and edit on whatever computer they own. It installs as a web app on Windows, Linux, Mac and Chromebook and works on files in your own folders. Nothing has to be uploaded to start.
Scrolling a grid of thousands of frames, toggling panels and switching images are treated as the core job. Noise reduction, subject masking and object removal run on your own device.
You buy the core editor once and keep it. AI tools are a one-time unlock or an optional monthly plan, so skipping a few years of camera purchases does not cost you more.

- Why this name
- A still is a photograph and a room is where you work, like a darkroom. Two plain words joined into one easy name.

PricingAI proposal
The material gives no competitor prices, so these tiers have no amounts yet. Set them by testing against current Lightroom Classic and Capture One prices, which the material only calls expensive.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Photographers find it through reviews, forums and videos that compare speed and price. Exported images carry no required branding, so use does not spread by itself.
- Do they become customers?
- Reach comes from content and word of mouth among photographers. Test whether people on a trial catalog of their own photos will pay for the core and AI unlock.
- First customers
- Serious amateur and working photographers on Windows or Linux who shoot weddings, events or travel and are unhappy with subscription pricing or lag in their current editor.
- Where to reach them
- Photography forums and Hacker News: Post a public speed benchmark on a 2,000-photo catalog and invite people to try their own folders.
- Photography YouTube creators: Offer free licenses to reviewers who compare editors on non-Mac hardware.
- First milestone
- Fifty photographers use it on a real shoot, and ten pay for the one-time license within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimLightroom Classic suffers from UI lag and performance issues on high-end machines, including simple tasks like scrolling and panel visibility toggling.
- Public claimPhoto editing software pricing is expensive whether subscription-based or perpetual license, with subscription models penalizing users who skip multiple years of updates.
- Public claimRecent AI features like noise reduction, object detection masking, and AI object removal have become expected and drive software purchasing decisions.
- Public claimCompeting photo editing tools have converged on similar feature sets, narrowing differentiation and making pricing the primary decision factor.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalMatching native speed on 50-megapixel RAW files in a browser is hard. WebGPU and memory limits may make large catalogs slower than promised.
- PlatformFolder access in browsers is uneven. Safari and Firefox support less, so the first version may mostly work in Chromium browsers.
- AIOn-device models must be good enough to compete with the AI tools the material says photographers now expect, and they must run on mid-range hardware.
- CommercialThe material says tools have converged and price decides. A one-time price may not cover ongoing model and RAW camera support work.
- TechnicalNew cameras need RAW format support. Falling behind on new models would push professionals back to their current tool.
