About this appAI proposal
Lantern Roll is a photo manager for people who keep their pictures on their own Nextcloud server. It adds a quick timeline, albums, search and phone backup on top of the files you already store, so nothing is copied to a third-party cloud.
It is made for Nextcloud administrators, families and small teams who want browsing to feel smooth even with large libraries. Admins see backup health and storage in one place; everyone else just opens the timeline.
Photos stay as ordinary files in your Nextcloud folders. If you stop using Lantern Roll, your library and folder structure are untouched.

- Why this name
- A lantern is a small light you carry and own; a roll is a film roll and a scroll. Two plain words, easy to say.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users send album links to family and friends. The shared page opens from the owner's own server and carries a small Lantern Roll mark.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers rarely run Nextcloud, so few become customers. Test whether the few who do self-host ask for the app, and whether hosts add it for their users.
- First customers
- Small providers who sell managed Nextcloud instances to families and small businesses, with 20 to 500 customer accounts.
- Where to reach them
- Nextcloud community forum: Post a demo and invite admins to try the free tier and report slow libraries.
- Self-hosting subreddits: Share before-and-after browsing speed on a large library and ask for testers.
- Direct outreach to hosts: Email managed Nextcloud providers with an offer to pilot the Host tier.
- First milestone
- Three managed Nextcloud providers paying for the Host tier and 100 active free installs within 90 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformBrowsers limit background upload on phones, so backup may only run while the app is open. This could weaken the backup promise against native apps.
- TechnicalFast browsing of very large libraries depends on thumbnails made on modest home servers; setup and performance vary a lot.
- CommercialFree, open-source gallery apps already serve this audience. Self-hosters may not pay, so demand from hosting providers must be tested.
- PlatformNextcloud may change its own photo features or APIs, which could overlap with or break integrations.
- AIDuplicate and blur detection can make wrong calls; deletion must always need explicit confirmation.
