About this appAI proposal
Notelane is a singing practice app for hobbyists. Play a song from the service you already use, sing along, and see your pitch against the original melody as you go. It learns the tune from the recording itself, so you practise with the artist's version, not a cover.
There is no song library to export or download. Open a track, let Notelane listen for a few seconds, and the melody line builds ahead of you. You get a live note guide, a timing score and a short list of phrases to retry.
Your voice and the music are analysed on your device and are not stored. Only your scores and progress notes are kept, so you can see improvement over weeks without leaving a recording behind.

- Why this name
- A lane is the path a note travels on screen, and a plain two-part word that is easy to say. It suggests staying in your lane, meaning on pitch.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Works with the original recording
Practise on the real track from your streaming or video source. No covers, no pre-exported song files on your disk.

Melody learned as the song plays
Notelane listens to the track and draws the vocal line ahead of you, so you can follow the notes without a prepared library.

Live pitch and timing feedback
A moving line shows how close each sung note is to the target, and whether you came in early or late.

Phrase loops for weak spots
After a run, tap a flagged phrase to loop it and slow it down until your pitch lands.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. After a run, users share a score card or a short progress chart with the song title and a link to try the same track. No audio is shared, only the result.
- Do they become customers?
- Friends who open a card could try it free and become users, but sharing may be rare. Test how many card views lead to a first session and then to a paid plan.
- First customers
- Adult hobby singers on Mac who practise at home with songs on streaming services, such as people in amateur choirs or learning singing from videos.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Show HN: Post a demo with a try-now link, since the original thread showed interest in this idea.
- Singing subreddits and forums: Offer free early access to hobby singers and ask for feedback on pitch accuracy.
- Community choir groups: Offer members free practice access and ask for referrals within the group.
- First milestone
- Fifty weekly active singers, and ten paying subscribers, within 60 days of launching the free version.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalPulling a clean lead-vocal melody from a full mix in real time is hard. Accuracy may be poor on dense songs, and the target line could mislead singers.
- PlatformTab audio capture is not equally supported across browsers, and some streaming services may block or limit capture. Terms of service need review.
- TechnicalVoice can leak into the mic from speakers and confuse scoring. Headphones may be required, which adds friction.
- CommercialFree singing apps and karaoke tools exist. Hobbyists may not pay unless the original-recording practice is clearly better.
- Intellectual propertyAnalysing copyrighted recordings could raise rights questions even without saving audio. Legal review is needed before launch.
