ScreensConcept
Desktop and mobile: Sole proprietors log mileage and expenses quickly on the go, but need to review ledgers and run tax reports at a desk. Sample screens on a computer and a phone, in the proposed brand. Their numbers are sample data.

About this appAI proposal
Tallybook keeps a sole proprietor's books as plain text with a full change history. Expenses, invoices, mileage and tax categories live in one place, and every edit is timestamped, so you can show what changed and when.
Checks run as you work. An expense marked as tax-deductible needs a receipt attached, an invoice needs a client and a due date, and a trip needs a purpose. Gaps show up in a list before tax time, not during it.
It is fast, has no ads and no upsell banners, and your files stay yours. Use the web app on desktop or phone, or export plain text and open it in the tools you already use. Share a read-only view with your accountant.

- Why this name
- A tally is the oldest way of keeping count; a book is where the record lives. Two plain words that say what it is.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Plain-text ledger you own
Your books are readable text files. Export or import at any time, so you are never locked in.

The material gives no competitor prices, only complaints that QuickBooks is expensive. These tiers are a starting point to test, not a market-based figure.

Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Invoices are sent as links to clients, and accountants get read-only views. Both are people outside the product who see its name on the page.
- Do they become customers?
- Clients mostly are not sole proprietors with books of their own, and accountants may be. Test whether invoice viewers or accountants sign up, and whether accountants bring other clients.
- First customers
- Freelance developers and consultants in the US who file as sole proprietors, are comfortable with text files and git, and currently use QuickBooks or a spreadsheet.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Post a demo of the checks and history view, and invite plain-text accounting users to try an import.
- Plain-text accounting communities: Offer a free import from existing ledger files and ask for feedback on the missing invoicing and mileage.
- First milestone
- Ten freelancers import real books and five pay for Solo within 60 days.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialPeople who like plain-text accounting may prefer free tools and add their own scripts, so few may pay for hosting.
- RegulatoryTax rules differ by country and year. Claims about tax compliance or legal weight of timestamps could mislead users.
- TechnicalKeeping a readable text format and a friendly web editor in sync, with imports from existing ledger files, is hard to get right.
- DataHosting financial records and receipts requires strong security, backups and clear export rights.
- CommercialNon-technical sole proprietors may not care about plain text, which narrows the first audience.
