About this appAI proposal
Portwatch Hub shows which process owns which port, on every machine you run. It joins listening ports with processes, Docker containers and systemd services, so you stop piecing the answer together from several terminal commands.
A small agent runs on each host and reports to a web dashboard. It flags port conflicts, notices when a port drifts from your Compose file or a saved baseline, and keeps a history of what changed.
It is built for developers, DevOps engineers and sysadmins who run Docker and systemd on Linux, macOS or Windows. Individuals can watch one host free; teams add many hosts, alerts and audit trails.

- Why this name
- Port is the thing you look for, watch is what it does. Hub says every host reports to one place.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One table for ports, processes and containers
Each listening port is shown with its process, owning container and systemd unit, so one glance answers what is using this port.
No member yet
Port conflict detection
Warns when two services want the same port, including a Compose mapping that clashes with a process already on the host.
No member yet
Port drift alerts
Compare live ports with a saved baseline or Compose file. Get told when a service moves, vanishes or appears.
No member yet
Compose audit
Reads Compose files and lists published ports, duplicates and mappings that differ from what is running.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$190,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. It reaches customers through open-source listing, developer content and search for port conflict problems. Users do not send output to outsiders in a way that markets the product.
- Do they become customers?
- Individual users of the free tier could become team buyers. Test whether solo users bring a second host or a colleague within 30 days.
- First customers
- Small DevOps teams of 2 to 10 engineers running Docker Compose on a handful of Linux servers, with no central monitoring stack yet.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source: Publish the free TUI and agent, and answer port-conflict issues in Docker and Compose repositories.
- Developer communities: Post worked examples of drift and conflict debugging on Hacker News and relevant subreddits.
- Search content: Write guides on finding what is using a port on each operating system, linking to the tool.
- First milestone
- Five teams paying for the Team tier within 90 days of launching the hosted dashboard.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedGitHub repository gained 305 stars in 76 days
- Public claimThe product unifies inspection of processes, Docker containers, systemd services, and ports in a single interface available as TUI, web, and Cockpit plugin.
- Public claimDevelopers and operators need to detect port drift and audit Docker Compose configurations alongside process and port monitoring.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalReading ports, processes and service state differently on Linux, macOS and Windows is hard; Docker and systemd data may need elevated rights on some hosts.
- CommercialFree CLI tools exist and an open-source project in this space is gaining stars; teams may not pay for a hosted dashboard.
- DataPort and process data about servers is sensitive; the agent must send minimal data and customers must trust it.
- PlatformRemote stop and restart actions raise security concerns, so the agent needs signed commands and a read-only mode.
