About this appAI proposal
Pondside gives each coding agent its own disposable Postgres copy of your production database. The agent runs real migrations and real SQL against real schema and data shape, and when it is done the copy is thrown away. Production is never touched.
It connects to the Postgres you already run through logical replication, so you do not move your database to a new host. Sandboxes start from a shared copy-on-write base, which keeps them quick to create and cheap to hold, even when many agents run in parallel.
Access goes through a proxy with per-agent permissions, and sensitive columns can be anonymized before an agent sees them. Teams get a safer place to let agents try schema changes, instead of mocks that agents tend to invent or heavy local containers.

- Why this name
- A pond is a small, still body of water set beside the main stream: a safe place to splash around. It is short, easy to say, and hints at a copy kept apart from production.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Works with your current Postgres host
Follows your database through logical replication. No migration to another platform and no physical replication access needed.

Sandboxes in seconds
Each agent gets an isolated copy from a shared copy-on-write base, so starting ten at once does not mean copying ten databases.

Real database behavior
Agents test migrations, constraints and queries on an actual Postgres, not a mock they may have imagined.

Proxy with scoped access
Every connection passes a proxy. Set which agent may read which schemas, limit statements, and see a log of what ran.

PricingAI proposal
Supabase's pricing page (verified) lists a free plan, paid plans from $25 to $599 a month, and custom prices for larger customers. These tiers follow that range as a starting point to test; the material gives no sandbox pricing.

What it could be worthEstimate

If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Offer a CLI, API and ready-made setup for popular coding agents and CI systems, so teams find Pondside inside the tools where their agents already work.
- Do they become customers?
- People reached through agent tooling are the same developers who would pay, but they may not control budget. Test whether individual developers upgrade to Team without a sales call.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 5 to 30 people running Postgres on a hosted provider and already letting coding agents open pull requests that include migrations.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Write a technical post on testing agent migrations on real Postgres, and answer threads about agents and databases.
- Agent tool communities: Publish a setup guide and example config for popular coding agents, in their Discords and repositories.
- Direct outreach: Contact engineering leads who have posted about agent-caused database incidents and offer a hands-on pilot.
- First milestone
- Five teams on Postgres hosts other than Neon each run agent sandboxes weekly for a month, and three of them pay.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedHacker News post received 99 points and 52 comments
- Public claimCoding agents are now highly capable at handling complex engineering tasks but lack safe database testing environments, causing them to deploy dangerous code to production.
- Public claimThe founders directly experienced the pain of agents failing due to lack of database sandbox infrastructure at scale.
- Public claimExisting solutions require platform migration, which creates separation and lock-in concerns for users.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalLogical replication does not carry everything (sequences, some DDL, extensions), so sandboxes may differ from production in ways that matter to a migration test.
- DataCopying production data, even masked, raises trust hurdles. A missed column or masking bug could expose personal data to an agent.
- CommercialNeon and Supabase already offer branching, and may add faster ephemeral clones. Teams may accept their speed and cost to avoid another vendor.
- PlatformSome hosted Postgres providers limit logical replication settings or slots, which could block setup for part of the target customers.
- RegulatoryCustomers in regulated sectors may require the service to run in their own cloud account, which a small team must build and support.
