About this appAI proposal
Hushlane is a meta search engine that sends your query to several search backends and returns one merged list, without keeping a log of who asked what. Run it on your own server, or let us run an instance for your team. It installs as a web app on phones and desktops.
It is built for organizations and individuals who want search that does not track or monetize queries, but do not want to maintain search infrastructure by hand. An admin page covers backends, blocked sites and retention, so no one edits config files for routine changes.
The source material says people want a more modern and faster alternative to Searx. Hushlane aims at that gap: quick results, a clean interface, and setup that takes minutes instead of an afternoon.

- Why this name
- A hush is quiet, and a lane is a path your query takes. Two plain words that say search that moves without noise or a trail.

One-command self-hosting
Deploy with a single container and a guided first-run page. Pick backends, set a domain, and you have a working private search.

Merged results from many backends
Queries fan out to the engines you enable. Results are de-duplicated and ranked together, so one engine's gaps do not hide answers.

Zero query logging by default
No accounts, no profiles, no stored queries. Backends see your server, not the person searching. Optional retention is off unless an admin turns it on.

Fast, modern interface
Results stream in as each backend answers. A clean layout, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode and install-to-home-screen support.

From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Teams set Hushlane as the browser default through a shareable setup link. It also lists in self-hosting directories and container catalogs, where admins looking for private search find it.
- Do they become customers?
- Admins who find it in catalogs can become paying managed customers, but ordinary searchers only see it. Test whether self-hosters convert to paid hosting or support.
- First customers
- IT admins at small privacy-minded organizations of 20 to 200 people, such as nonprofits, law offices and journalism groups, who want private search without running it.
- Where to reach them
- Self-hosting communities: Share the open-source release and a setup guide in forums and subreddits where people discuss self-hosted tools.
- GitHub: Publish the repository with a clear comparison to Searx and a one-command install to collect stars and issues.
- Direct outreach: Email privacy-focused nonprofits and small firms offering a free 30-day managed instance.
- First milestone
- Ten organizations on managed trials and three paying for the Managed or Team tier within 60 days of release.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformSearch backends may block, rate-limit or change terms for automated queries, which could break results or force paid APIs.
- CommercialThe code is open source and Searx already exists, so many users may self-host free and never pay. Paid managed hosting and support must be shown to have demand.
- TechnicalMatching Searx's breadth of backends while staying fast takes ongoing work as engines change their pages and formats.
- RegulatoryHosting instances for customers may create duties around content, abuse and data handling that differ by country.
- Intellectual propertyReusing or adapting open-source code needs a licence check, and the name needs a trademark search before use.
