About this appAI proposal
Hearthrepo hosts your private repositories and runs your CI pipelines on managed machines, while your data stays portable. Every repository can be exported or moved to your own server at any time, and self-hosting stays free.
It is for developers and small engineering teams building proprietary software who want to skip running their own infrastructure without being locked into one central host. Pay a flat monthly fee for hosting and build minutes, or run the same software yourself.
The difference is control: plain Git underneath, access rules you can read and audit, and a one-command move between our servers and yours.

- Why this name
- A hearth is a home base you tend yourself, and can leave. It suggests warmth, ownership and a place builds get cooked.

Private repos, open format
Plain Git underneath, with access rules stored in a readable file. Nothing about your repo depends on our servers.

PricingAI proposal
Based on a public claim that users would pay about $10/month, and on GitHub's verified pricing page (free plan, paid plans from $4 to $21 by usage). Team tier is a starting point to test.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

Worth about

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. Teams invite collaborators, including contractors and clients, to specific repositories. Invitees see the product when they clone, review or read build logs.
- Do they become customers?
- Invitees are developers who may start their own paid account, but some will only be guests. Test what share of invited collaborators create a managed account within 60 days.
- First customers
- Small teams of 2 to 10 developers at software consultancies and startups who keep proprietary code and currently pay for GitHub or maintain their own server.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Post a Show HN with the export-and-move demo, where the original claim about $10 pricing was made.
- Self-hosting communities: Offer the free self-hosted version in homelab and self-hosting forums, then convert people who want managed CI.
- First milestone
- Twenty teams pay $10/month for 60 days, with at least five using managed CI weekly.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimUsers would pay a reasonable price ($10/month) to avoid dealing with infrastructure.
- Public claim1,000 paying customers at the lowest tier is enough to pay for a full-time engineer; 10,000 customers can support a small team.
- Public claimHardware costs are low enough that margins can be high without Amazon-scale operations.
- VerifiedGitHub's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, from $4 to $21 by usage, plus a free plan

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalRunning customers' build code safely needs strong sandboxing. A breakout or abuse such as crypto mining would hurt trust and costs.
- CommercialGitHub already has a free plan and paid plans from $4. Many teams may not see enough reason to switch for control alone.
- PlatformFederated private access relies on young permissioned-data work for decentralized protocols, which may change or stall.
- CommercialThe claim that 1,000 customers fund an engineer and hardware is cheap is unverified. CI compute costs may exceed $10 for heavy users.
