About this appAI proposal
Steadyline is a browser-based code reader and small-edit tool for people whose files are changed by AI assistants and background scripts. It watches your project folder and shows each change as it lands, with no buffer reloads. Your cursor, scroll position and selection stay where they were.
Instead of treating every file as something you write from scratch, Steadyline is built for reading and short fixes. Changes from background processes are marked in the margin, grouped by source, and can be accepted, edited or reverted one hunk at a time.
It installs as a PWA and uses a small local helper to watch files, so it works next to the editor, terminal and AI tool you already use.

- Why this name
- Steady is what your view stays while files change; line is a line of code. Two plain words, easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Live updates, no reload
File changes from AI tools and scripts appear within moments. You never type a reload command and never lose your place.

Focus lock
Your cursor, selection and scroll stay fixed when a file changes above or below you. Lines shift around you, not under you.

Margin change marks
Each line changed by a background process gets a mark in the margin, tagged with when it changed and which process wrote it.

Hunk-level accept and revert
Review changes one hunk at a time. Keep it, tweak it inline, or put back your previous version with one key.

Worth about

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users send read-only links to a set of changes, such as an agent run. Teammates read the highlighted hunks in the browser without installing anything.
- Do they become customers?
- Link readers are developers who could become users, but they may only read once. Test how many open a link, install the helper, and start a free project.
- First customers
- Solo developers who run AI coding agents in the terminal and edit in Vim or a similar modal editor, in small startups.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News Show HN: Post a demo of focus lock against a running agent, where the source threads on this need appeared.
- Vim and terminal communities: Share a short screen recording in forums and chats for modal-editor users running agents.
- First milestone
- Fifty free installs and ten paying Solo users within eight weeks of launch, from the modal-editor group.
Why people already pay for this
- VerifiedZed's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, at $10 a month, plus a free plan
- Public claimDevelopers need editors that display file changes immediately when background AI processes modify code
- Public claimTraditional editors lack real-time file change detection, forcing users to manually reload buffers
- AI inferenceDeveloper workflow is shifting from writing full files to reviewing and making small focused edits alongside AI output

- This app · Local file watcherSmall cross-platform helper that streams changesBrowsers cannot watch a whole folder reliably, so a local helper sends file events to the PWA.
- This app · Diff engineOpen-source text diff and merge libraryNeeded for hunk grouping, line-level marks and conflict views.
RisksAI inference
- TechnicalBrowsers cannot watch folders natively. The local helper adds an install step and may fail on some systems or with very large repositories.
- CommercialZed already shows background changes live with Vim Mode, per the material. Developers may not want a second tool next to their editor.
- PlatformFile System Access support differs across browsers, which could limit direct file writes for small edits.
- TechnicalWrites from this tool and from a background process can collide. Wrong merges could lose code and cost trust.
- CommercialEvidence is public claims from one forum plus one inference. Paid demand for a separate viewer is unproven.
