ScreensConcept
Desktop app: DevOps engineers write environment files, monitor bootstrap steps, and run configuration checks in focused sessions, requiring keyboard input and sustained attention. Sample screens on a computer, in the proposed brand. Their numbers are sample data.

About this appAI proposal
Shelfset turns the fiddly first hour of self-hosted S3-compatible storage into one short environment file. You describe your nodes, buckets and keys; Shelfset generates the config, runs the bootstrap steps in order, and tests the result with real S3 calls before it says ready.
It is for developers and DevOps engineers who need local, CI or on-premises object storage and are tired of assigning node roles and applying layouts by hand. People in the evidence describe bootstrapping as a pain and say env-var setup is what they want.
Shelfset does not replace your storage engine. It sits beside it as a small agent plus a web dashboard, so you keep the engine you trust and drop the manual steps. The same file works on a laptop, in CI and on a rack.

- Why this name
- Shelf is where things get stored; set is both "set up" and "a ready group of nodes". Two plain syllables, easy to say and type.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One env file, whole cluster
Declare nodes, roles, buckets and access keys in a single env file. Shelfset generates the engine config and compose files from it.

Ordered bootstrap
The agent assigns roles, applies the layout and creates buckets and keys in the right order, and retries steps that fail.
No member yet
Readiness checks
After setup it runs real put, get, list and delete calls through the S3 API and reports which step failed and why.
No member yet
Zero-config local mode
Start a single-node store on a laptop or in CI with sensible defaults and a printed endpoint, key and secret.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users send teammates read-only setup links showing a cluster's config and check results, and publish env-file templates in READMEs and repos that name Shelfset.
- Do they become customers?
- Teammates who open a link are developers who run storage too, so some could sign up. Test how many link viewers create an account and start their own store.
- First customers
- Small DevOps and platform teams of 2 to 10 engineers who run on-premises or CI object storage for testing and private deployments.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and self-hosting forums: Share a short guide and the free env-file generator in threads where people discuss bootstrapping pain.
- Open-source repo templates: Publish sample compose and env templates that link to Shelfset for readiness checks.
- Direct outreach: Message platform engineers who post about moving off cloud storage and offer a free guided setup.
- First milestone
- Five teams run a multi-node on-premises cluster through Shelfset and three of them pay for the Team plan.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimOn-premises S3 alternatives are sought as cloud alternatives
- Public claimS3-compatible storage bootstrapping is complex and error-prone
- Public claimEnvironment variable-based configuration is a desired feature for simplified setup

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalEngine admin APIs change between versions, so the agent may break after an upgrade. Start with one engine and pin tested versions.
- CommercialDevelopers may script the setup themselves or stay on free open-source tools. Willingness to pay for a setup layer is unproven; the evidence is public comments.
- PlatformValue depends on a third-party engine that could add its own simple bootstrap and make the product redundant.
- DataThe agent handles access keys and cluster details. Secrets must stay on the user's side and the dashboard must never store them in plain form.
- CommercialLocal and CI users may never need a hosted dashboard, so paid conversion could come only from on-premises teams.
