ScreensConcept
Desktop and mobile: Security teams review connection maps and policies on desktop but also triage alerts and approve blocks from phones during incidents. Sample screens on a computer and a phone, in the proposed brand. Their numbers are sample data.

About this appAI proposal
Plainwatch gives security and IT teams a live map of AI use across company devices: chat apps, coding assistants, browser tools and the MCP connectors that link them to files, repos and databases. A small browser extension and a light device agent report to a dashboard you can open on a phone.
It is built for companies of 200 or more people where AI tools spread faster than policy. EDR tools see processes and CASB tools see network traffic. Plainwatch looks at the AI application layer: which tool, which connection, which data, which action.
Employees can see what is collected and why, in plain words. Rules start in observe mode, so you learn what is happening before you block anything.

- Why this name
- Plain says it is open and clear to employees and analysts alike; watch says what it does. Two short, easy words.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
AI app discovery
Finds chat apps, coding assistants and browser AI tools on each device, including ones nobody asked IT to approve.
No member yet
Connection map
Shows which data sources, repos and MCP servers each AI tool is wired to, and who set up the link.

Risky action alerts
Flags pasted secrets, API keys in prompts and destructive commands run by agents, with the device and tool involved.

Observe, then enforce
Every rule starts in log-only mode. Switch to warn or block per group once you trust it.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. It reaches customers through direct sales, content and security community channels. Employees see the transparency page, but that is not a path to a purchase.
- Do they become customers?
- Employees who see it are not buyers. Test whether security leads reached through content and a free 25-device pilot convert to paid per-device plans.
- First customers
- Security or IT leads at software companies of 200 to 1,000 staff where engineers already use AI coding assistants.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and security forums: Share write-ups on AI tool risks, such as leaked keys and agent commands, and invite readers to the pilot.
- Security leader communities: Offer a free AI usage audit to CISOs and IT leads in peer groups and Slack communities.
- Direct outreach: Contact security leads at engineering-heavy firms with a one-page sample inventory report.
- First milestone
- Five companies run the pilot on 25+ devices, and at least two agree to pay per device within 60 days.
Why people already pay for this

- Public claimSecurity teams and CISOs see rapid, widespread AI adoption as a priority need for visibility and control.
- Public claimCompanies are already deploying AI monitoring solutions in production, showing market traction and demand.
- Public claimEmployees' AI tool usage is extensive and fragmented, creating security complexity that needs monitoring.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalReliable agents on macOS and Windows, with signing, updates and low overhead, are far harder than the dashboard and may stretch the first version.
- PlatformBrowser stores and OS vendors may limit extension or agent access, and AI apps change often, so detection can break.
- CommercialBuyers may wait for their EDR or CASB vendor to add AI features, or may not trust a new vendor with device-level access.
- DataPrompt and tool-call content is sensitive. Collecting it creates privacy duties and a target; it must be minimal and redacted.
- RegulatoryEmployee monitoring rules differ by country and region, and may require notice or consent.
