About this appAI proposal
Ferrule is an integration gateway you run on your own servers. Your AI agents call GitHub, Slack, Hacker News and any HTTP endpoint through one place, over MCP or REST. Credentials, tokens and request logs stay inside your infrastructure.
It is for teams building agents who need data residency, want to avoid vendor lock-in, or do not want integration fees to grow with every agent call. A web console, installable as a PWA, lets you connect accounts, set permissions and watch what agents did.
Unlike cloud integration platforms, nothing leaves your network unless you allow it. Custom actions are described in a short file, so adding an internal API takes minutes rather than a vendor request.

- Why this name
- A ferrule is the small metal fitting that joins a cable to a tool: a firm, simple connection. That is what the gateway does between agents and services.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
MCP and REST from one definition
Each action is defined once and served as an MCP tool and a REST endpoint, so any agent framework can call it.

Built-in GitHub, Slack and Hacker News
Start with common connectors that handle auth, token refresh and rate limits for you.

Custom HTTP actions
Describe any internal or third-party API in a short file: URL, inputs, auth. It appears as a tool at once.

Encrypted credential vault
Tokens are encrypted with a key you hold. Agents get scoped access, never the raw secret.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. List Ferrule in MCP server directories and agent framework docs, and publish ready-made connector definitions that others can share and reuse.
- Do they become customers?
- Developers who find it are the same people who deploy and could pay for support. Test how many self-hosters convert to paid support or managed hosting.
- First customers
- Small engineering teams of 3 to 20 building internal AI agents in regulated or data-sensitive fields such as fintech or health software.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and MCP directories: Publish the open-source repo with a quick-start guide and list it in MCP server directories.
- Developer communities: Post tutorials in agent-builder forums and Hacker News on self-hosting agent tools.
- Direct outreach: Contact teams who mention data residency worries with agent platforms.
- First milestone
- Five teams run it in production and three pay for support or managed hosting within 90 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialOpen-source core may give little reason to pay. Support and managed tiers need testing against teams that simply self-host free.
- TechnicalEach connector needs upkeep as upstream APIs and OAuth rules change; breadth will trail the established cloud platforms.
- TechnicalSelf-hosting means varied customer environments, which raises setup and support cost.
- AIAgents can misuse actions with real effects. Permissions and approvals must be strong, or one bad call damages trust.
- Intellectual propertyName needs a trademark check, and the open-source license choice affects the commercial licensing plan.
