About this appAI proposal
Groundplan is a map workspace that runs on your own servers. Analysts write SQL against the warehouse they already use, see the results on an interactive map, and share the map with colleagues. Data stays inside your network. It is built for GIS professionals and data teams who have data residency rules, or who do not want a hosted mapping platform holding their data. Today these teams pay for a cloud platform or assemble their own backend around open-source map libraries.
Groundplan gives you the backend that those libraries lack: saved queries, maps, access control and sharing, ready to deploy. You keep the map tools your team knows, and you keep control of where data lives and who sees it.

- Why this name
- A groundplan is a map-like drawing of a site, and the word suggests the product sits on your own ground.

What it could be worthEstimate

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Analysts share maps with colleagues, who open them in a browser. Each shared map can carry a small Groundplan mark and a link to the product.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers inside one company may ask for their own editor seat, but many will only look. Test how often viewers request an upgrade. Links stay in private networks, so exposure outside is limited.
- First customers
- Data teams of 5 to 30 analysts at mid-size European companies that run Snowflake or BigQuery and have data residency rules.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source forums: Publish deployment guides and examples where people compare self-hosted mapping options.
- GIS and data communities: Post worked examples of spatial SQL maps in analyst Slack groups and meetups.
- First milestone
- Five paying teams in one region, each running it on their own infrastructure for 60 days.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialThe material shows an existing open-source self-hosted project with the same aim. A new product must show a clear gain, such as easier deployment or audit features, or buyers may pick the free one.
- TechnicalLarge result sets can be slow to move from the warehouse to the browser, and each warehouse handles spatial types differently.
- CommercialTeams that self-host often want free software. Willingness to pay for support or managed hosting is unproven.
- DataStoring warehouse credentials needs careful handling, and a leak would harm customers who chose self-hosting for security.
