About this appAI proposal
Loftline is a self-hosted instant messaging server for teams that must keep message data on their own machines. It exposes WebSocket and REST APIs, so you can add chat to your own product or run an internal messaging system without sending data to a third-party service.
Setup is one container and a guided console, which works as an installable web app. You create tenants, set retention and region rules, issue API keys and watch delivery health from your phone or desktop. Each tenant is kept apart in storage, limits and keys.
It is for platform developers and IT teams in organizations with privacy or data sovereignty requirements. Unlike a server you assemble yourself, Loftline puts deployment, upgrades, multi-tenancy and reliability checks in one place.

- Why this name
- A loft is a space you own and control; a line is how messages travel. Two plain words that say private, owned messaging.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One-command deploy
Start the server from a single container image with a guided first-run check of database, TLS and storage before any user connects.

Multi-tenant by design
Create tenants with their own keys, quotas, retention rules and branding. Data is partitioned per tenant and exports are per tenant.

WebSocket and REST APIs
Send and receive messages in real time over WebSocket, and manage channels, users and history over a documented REST API.

Embeddable chat widget
Drop a chat panel into your app with a short snippet and token-based sign-in from your own auth system.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Visible inside customers’ products. Teams embed the Loftline chat widget in their own products. The Community tier shows a small 'Powered by Loftline' mark in the widget, which their end users and developer peers see.
- Do they become customers?
- Widget viewers are mostly end users, not buyers. Test whether developers at embedding companies click through and start their own install, and whether the mark is accepted on free plans.
- First customers
- Small software companies in regulated fields (health, legal, public sector) with 5 to 30 engineers that need chat inside their own app and must host it themselves.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source forums: Publish the Community tier with clear docs and a comparison page, and answer self-hosting questions where developers ask them.
- Developer communities: Post deployment guides on sovereignty-focused chat setups in self-hosting and platform engineering groups.
- Direct outreach: Contact engineering leads at regulated-sector software firms with an offer to help set up a pilot.
- First milestone
- Five teams in regulated software running Loftline in a pilot, and two of them paying for the Team tier within 90 days.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialMattermost and Rocket.Chat are established open-source self-hosted chat options. Buyers may not see enough reason to switch, so the embed-first and multi-tenant angle must prove itself.
- TechnicalReliable message delivery at scale (ordering, reconnects, failover) is hard. A first version may only be credible for small deployments.
- CommercialOpen-source or free self-hosting may make it hard to convert users to paid tiers; support and SLA value must be proven.
- RegulatoryCustomers with sovereignty needs may ask for certifications, encryption options and audit features that take long to build.
- PlatformSelf-hosting means support burden across varied environments, which strains a small team.
