About this appAI proposal
Hearthreel is a self-hosted media server with a phone-first web app. You run a small container next to your files. It scans your movie and TV folders, fixes messy names, and streams to any browser or phone. Nothing is uploaded to a catalog and nothing is locked in.
It is for people who already keep their own library and are tired of tuning servers by hand. Setup is a guided checklist, not a config file. A health view shows what is indexed, what is broken, and what is being transcoded right now.
The core server is free to run. Paid plans add remote access without opening router ports, and household sharing. The material gives no market prices, so the plans are a starting point to test.

- Why this name
- Hearth means home; reel means film. Together they say a film library kept at home, in two pronounceable words.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Guided setup
One Docker command, then a checklist: pick folders, name rules and users. No config files to edit for a normal library.

Library health view
Shows unmatched files, duplicates, missing subtitles and odd formats in one list, with one-tap fixes.

Live stream monitor
See who is watching, whether it direct plays or transcodes, and how much CPU each stream uses.

Light on resources
Plays files directly when the device allows. Transcodes only when needed, with a CPU cap you set.

Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Users invite others. The owner invites family and friends to a profile on their server. Each guest installs the web app from the invite link and sees the Hearthreel name every time they watch.
- Do they become customers?
- Guests are mostly viewers, not server owners. Test how many invited guests go on to run their own server or ask for a plan.
- First customers
- Home-lab hobbyists who already run a media server in Docker on a NAS or mini PC and share it with family members.
- Where to reach them
- Self-hosting communities: Post setup write-ups and short demos in forums and subreddits for home servers and media libraries.
- Open-source repository: Publish the server agent on GitHub with a clear install guide to gather stars and early testers.
- NAS app lists: Offer a ready container template for popular NAS brands so setup is one click.
- First milestone
- Fifty active home servers and ten paying Away subscribers within three months of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialEstablished free servers already exist and have loyal users. People may not switch for easier setup alone, so the gain must be clear in the first ten minutes.
- TechnicalStreaming and transcoding across many devices, codecs and home hardware is hard to make reliable for a small team.
- RegulatoryUsers may play pirated files through it. Terms, no hosted catalog and no content search reduce, but do not remove, the exposure.
- PlatformBrowsers and phone web apps limit background playback and some codecs, so the web app may feel weaker than native apps.
- DataMetadata services have usage terms and rate limits that could change and affect matching quality.
