About this appAI proposal
Driftpost is an over-the-air update server for React Native and Expo apps that runs on your own infrastructure. Push JavaScript, assets and config changes to production builds without waiting for app store review, and keep the bundles on servers you control.
It follows the Expo Updates protocol, so apps that already use it can point at Driftpost with a config change. A web dashboard shows channels, staged rollouts, rollback and who received which update, so a bad release is a one-tap fix instead of a store resubmission.
Built for solo developers and mid-sized teams who want to stop paying per update or per user, and who want update data kept off third-party servers. Deploy with Docker or a one-click Supabase and Vercel setup.

- Why this name
- A drift is something carried along; a post delivers it. Together: updates delivered to devices, in two plain words.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Expo Updates protocol
Serves manifests and assets the way Expo Updates clients expect, so existing apps switch by changing the update URL.

Self-hosted by default
Run it with Docker or on your own cloud. Bundles, assets and device logs stay in storage you own.

Channels and staging
Separate production, staging and preview channels. Promote a tested update to production without rebuilding.

Staged rollouts
Release to 5, 25 or 100 percent of devices and watch error counts before widening.

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Publish a GitHub Action, an Expo config plugin and a one-click Docker or Supabase deploy guide. Developers find Driftpost where they already set up releases.
- Do they become customers?
- Developers who self-host are the buyers of the hosted and Team tiers. Test whether open-source users convert to paid for analytics, roles and managed hosting.
- First customers
- Small teams of 2 to 10 React Native developers using Expo with an existing paid OTA service, who care about data control or recurring cost.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and Expo community: Post a migration guide and sample repo in Expo discussions and React Native forums.
- Developer newsletters: Pitch a write-up on moving off a hosted OTA service in an afternoon.
- Direct outreach: Message teams whose public repos use an OTA service and offer a free migration.
- First milestone
- Ten teams running Driftpost in production and five of them paying for Team or Hosted within 90 days.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformApple and Google rules limit what an OTA update may change. The product must keep to JavaScript and asset changes and warn teams about native changes.
- TechnicalFollowing the Expo Updates protocol exactly, across SDK versions, is fiddly. A protocol change could break existing clients until fixed.
- CommercialFree self-hosting may leave few reasons to pay, and open-source alternatives already exist. The paid tiers must offer clear value, such as analytics and hosting.
- TechnicalA broken update server can leave production apps unable to fetch fixes. Teams need uptime, caching and safe fallback to the embedded bundle.
- CommercialBuyers who self-host often prefer to build it themselves, so the hosted tier must prove it saves them real operations time.
