About this appAI proposal
Quillfeed is a feed reader you own. Follow blogs, news and newsletters in one calm list, sort them into folders, mark items read and search everything you have kept. It installs as a web app on your phone and desktop.
Choose how it runs: host it yourself on a small server, or use a managed copy and keep full export of your subscriptions and read history at any time. Your reading list is never locked in, so no single service closing can take it away.
Made for individuals and small teams who read many feeds every day and care about long-term availability. Recent articles are stored on your device, so reading works offline.

- Why this name
- A quill is the old tool for writing; a feed is what you read. Two plain words suggest a durable, personal reading habit.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Readers share a folder as a public OPML link or a reading list page of picked articles. Recipients can subscribe to the same feeds with one tap and see the Quillfeed name on the page.
- Do they become customers?
- Recipients are readers of feeds, so they are plausible customers, but only if they want their own reader. Test how many shared-list visitors sign up for a free or managed account.
- First customers
- Privacy-minded developers and writers who follow 50 or more feeds and already run small home or cloud servers.
- Where to reach them
- Self-hosting communities: Post a guided demo and setup guide in self-hosting forums and subreddits, inviting feedback.
- Developer newsletters: Offer a short write-up on moving off a closed reader with OPML, linking to a free trial.
- Show and tell posts: Publish a launch post on maker forums with a live managed demo.
- First milestone
- Twenty people on the managed plan paying monthly, from self-hosting communities, within 60 days of launch.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialFree self-hosting may leave few reasons to pay; managed hosting must be convenient enough to convert, and the material shows no willingness to pay.
- TechnicalFeeds are messy: broken formats, rate limits and slow servers. Reliable fetching and parsing takes ongoing work.
- TechnicalSupporting both a self-hosted build and a managed service doubles testing, upgrades and support load for a small team.
- Intellectual propertyArticle content belongs to publishers. Storing full text for search and offline use needs care about copyright and terms.
- CommercialEvidence is one open-source repository's star count; it shows interest in the idea, not paying customers.
