About this appAI proposal
Tapeshelf is a place for your team's terminal recordings. Upload a session from the command line and it is stored on infrastructure you run, or on a managed instance in a region you choose. Each recording gets a private or public link, a title, tags and a searchable text index.
It is for developers, DevOps engineers and technical writers who put terminal workflows into docs, tutorials, training and bug reports, and who need to decide where that data lives. Commands and output often contain hostnames and internal paths, so location matters.
Data location, retention and access are settings you own. Recordings can be embedded in docs, linked from issues and deleted on a schedule.

- Why this name
- A shelf for tapes: recordings stored somewhere you own and can find again. Two plain words joined, easy to say.

Worth about

Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users publish recording links and embeds in docs, issues and tutorials. Viewers see the player with a small Tapeshelf credit and a link to the product.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are mostly developers, so some could become users, but many only watch once. Test whether embed credits lead to sign-ups, and whether viewers' teams have a need to host recordings.
- First customers
- Platform and DevOps teams of 10 to 50 engineers at companies that restrict where internal data may be stored, and that already share terminal demos.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and open-source communities: Post an import guide for existing recordings and a compose file that runs in minutes.
- DevOps forums and newsletters: Write about keeping incident and runbook recordings in-house, with a worked example.
- First milestone
- Five teams on the managed or support tier within 90 days, from developer or DevOps teams.

RisksAI inference
- CommercialAn open-source self-hosted alternative already exists and is popular, so free self-hosting may satisfy most users and few would pay.
- TechnicalSupporting a self-hosted install across varied environments raises support cost for a small team.
- DataRecordings can contain secrets; masking will miss some, and a leak would damage trust.
- PlatformCompatibility with the existing recording format needs testing; format changes could break import.
- CommercialEvidence is a repository's star count only; willingness to pay for this is unverified.
