About this appAI proposal
Tideline is a standalone Git interface for developers who write code in VSCode, Sublime or Zed and want a better place to read changes. It focuses on the diff: side-by-side and inline views, word-level highlights, and a clear way to stage, split and commit.
It is meant for people who find existing standalone Git tools adequate but not on the level of the diff view in a full IDE. Tideline aims to bring that quality of review without installing a heavy IDE.
As a PWA it opens from a browser or the dock and works on local repositories through the browser's file access. Treat this page as a proposal: the diff quality is the part to prove first.

- Why this name
- A tideline is the mark left where water meets sand, like the line between old and new code. It is short and easy to say.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Side-by-side and inline diffs
Switch views per file. Changed words are marked inside changed lines, and moved blocks are shown as moves.

Stage by line or hunk
Select single lines or whole hunks to stage, unstage or discard, with an undo for each action.

$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- No loop in the product. Developers find it through content, demos and word of mouth. Diff screenshots can be shared, but the tool mostly runs privately on local code, so it has no built-in loop.
- Do they become customers?
- Reached developers are the buyers, so the path is sales, content and trials. Test whether trial users convert to paid after 14 days.
- First customers
- Professional developers working in Zed or VSCode on mid-size codebases who already pay for tools and review diffs daily.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News: Post a Show HN with a short demo of the diff view and invite feedback from those who commented.
- Zed and VSCode communities: Share in community forums and chats, and ask users to compare diffs against their current tool.
- Developer newsletters: Offer a free licence to a few authors in exchange for honest reviews.
- First milestone
- Twenty trial users in two weeks, and five paying customers who say the diff view replaced their current Git UI.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimDevelopers would pay for a standalone Git UI comparable to IDE diff viewers
- Public claimExisting standalone Git UIs fall short of premium IDE solutions
- Public claimIntelliJ's diff view is a quality benchmark that standalone tools should match
- VerifiedZed's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, at $10 a month, plus a free plan

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalRunning Git on local repositories from a PWA is hard. Browser file access is limited, and a local helper may be needed, which weakens the browser-only pitch.
- CommercialDevelopers already have free Git tooling in their editors and a paid option in Sublime Merge. Willingness to pay rests on public claims that still need testing.
- PlatformBrowser file access differs between browsers, and Safari and Firefox have limited support, which could shrink the reachable audience.
- TechnicalMatching an IDE's diff quality, including move detection and merge, takes much tuning and may take longer than estimated.
