About this appAI proposal
Handful is a workshop for text actions. Paste or share text into it, then run your own scripts and AI steps in a chain: clean up, rewrite, extract, reformat. The result is ready to copy back. It is built for writers, developers and researchers who repeat the same text jobs all day.
Text is processed in your browser. AI steps can call a local model such as Ollama on your machine, or a cloud model with your own key. Nothing goes through our servers unless you turn on sync. Actions are plain, readable scripts you can export and share.
Handful is a proposal for a PWA companion to menubar text-action tools. A web app cannot read selections across macOS, so it uses paste, the share target and the clipboard instead, and exports actions that desktop tools can reuse.

- Why this name
- A handful is a small amount you pick up and use at once, like a selection of text. It is short, easy to say and easy to spell.

Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
Chain actions on any text
Combine script steps and AI steps in order. Preview the output of each step before you copy the final result.

Local-first processing
Scripts run in a sandbox in your browser. Text stays on your device unless you choose cloud sync.

Bring your own model
Connect a local Ollama model or a cloud model with your own API key. Switch per action.

Readable scripts
Actions are short JavaScript functions and prompt templates. Edit, test with sample text, and export as files.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users publish action packs as link pages with a preview and a Try button. Recipients can run a pack on pasted text in the browser without an account, then save it by signing up.
- Do they become customers?
- Recipients run the pack and can sign up to save it, so they can become paying users. Test whether pack-page visitors create accounts, and whether free users hit the Pro limits.
- First customers
- Developers and technical writers on macOS who already run Ollama and keep personal text-cleanup scripts.
- Where to reach them
- GitHub and Hacker News: Post an open example pack library and a demo of a local-model chain, linking to the app.
- r/ollama and r/macapps: Share packs for common jobs such as commit messages and meeting notes, and ask for requests.
- Developer newsletters: Offer a sponsored pack and a short how-to on privacy-first text automation.
- First milestone
- Five paying Pro users among Ollama-using developers, and 100 pack-page visitors who save a pack.

RisksAI inference
- PlatformA PWA cannot read selected text across macOS apps. The paste and share flow adds steps that a menubar tool avoids, so users may not switch.
- TechnicalBrowsers calling a local Ollama server need the user to allow the app's origin, which is a setup hurdle for non-developers.
- CommercialThe signal is an open-source project; free alternatives and PopClip's long history may make people unwilling to pay.
- TechnicalRunning user-written scripts, including shared packs, needs a strict sandbox to prevent data theft.
- DataPrivacy is the main promise. Any cloud sync or telemetry must be encrypted and clearly optional, or trust is lost.
