About this appAI proposal
Dockline is a hosted API gateway that gives developers one US-based endpoint for premium closed-source language models. You keep the model you prefer and call it from a US region, without hunting for a provider that serves you.
It is for AI developers and practitioners who compare models and would pay for closed-source options, but now fall back on open-weight models because the premium ones lack a convenient US provider. Dockline aims to make the paid model as easy to reach as the open one.
One key, one bill, one request format. Each call shows its model, region and latency, so you can see where it ran and what it cost. Which models are offered depends on supplier agreements that must be secured first.

- Why this name
- A dock is where cargo lands and is passed on. The name suggests a dependable landing point for requests headed to premium models.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
One US endpoint
Send requests to a single US-hosted URL. Calls to supported premium models are routed for you, with no region setup on your side.

Drop-in request format
Use the chat-completions style your tools already speak. Change the base URL and key, and existing code and evals keep working.

Side-by-side model trials
Run the same prompt on a premium model and an open-weight one. Compare answer, latency and cost before you commit traffic.

Region and latency receipts
Every call logs the serving region, time to first token and total cost, so you can show where requests ran.

The material gives no competitor prices. These tiers are a starting point to test. Token usage would be billed on top, at a rate set once supplier costs are known.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Partners and integrations. Dockline speaks a common chat-completions format, so it can be added as a provider in popular coding assistants, eval harnesses and agent frameworks. Developers who see it listed there try it with their own key.
- Do they become customers?
- People who find it in a tool's provider list are developers who can pay on the spot. Test whether they move real traffic from an open-weight fallback to a paid model within a week of signup.
- First customers
- Solo developers and small AI teams of 1 to 10 in the US who run model evals or build agents and currently use an open-weight fallback because a premium model is hard to reach.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and dev forums: Join threads where people compare open and closed models. Offer a free trial key and a public availability page.
- Eval and agent tool communities: Publish a setup guide for adding Dockline as a custom provider in popular open-source tools.
- Direct outreach to commenters: Message people who said they would pay for US access to a premium model. Ask for a paid pilot.
- First milestone
- Ten paying developers each send at least 100,000 tokens a week to a premium model through Dockline for four weeks.
Why people already pay for this
- AI inferenceUsers would pay for premium closed-source model access if it were conveniently available in the US
- AI inferenceGeographic unavailability of premium models drives users toward open-weight alternatives
- Public claimModel familiarity and comfort is a significant factor in adoption decisions

RisksAI inference
- PlatformPremium model makers may not allow resale or routing, or may set terms that rule out a gateway. Without signed supplier agreements Dockline has nothing to sell.
- CommercialMakers may open US access themselves, or an existing gateway may add it. Dockline's edge would then shrink to convenience and tooling.
- CommercialPer-token margins may be thin, and the evidence is inference from forum comments, not verified demand. Willingness to pay needs testing with real money.
- RegulatoryExport rules, supplier region terms and data handling duties may limit who can be served and from where. Legal review is needed before launch.
- TechnicalStreaming proxies must stay low-latency and reliable under upstream outages. Dockline adds a hop, so any added delay or downtime erodes its value.
