About this appAI proposal
Plainreel hosts and streams video for content teams. You upload, get a fast embeddable player and a share page, and see plainly what you stored and streamed. The core is hosting, playback and basic viewing stats.
It is made for media teams and companies that publish a lot of video and do not want to pay for bundled features they never open. Prices are per GB stored and per GB streamed, and a running estimate sits at the top of every page.
Nothing is locked behind a higher plan for the sake of it. Add-ons are optional, listed with their cost, and never pushed with banners or pop-ups.

- Why this name
- Plain says the pricing is simple and honest; reel says video. Two ordinary words, easy to say and spell.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.

PricingAI proposal
Wistia's pricing page (verified) lists paid plans from $79 to $329 a year, plus a free plan. These tiers sit below that as a starting point to test. The material gives no per-GB prices; usage rates are untested.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.
If it makes
Worth about
$190,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Visible inside customers’ products. The player runs on customers' sites and share pages. A small, removable 'Hosted on Plainreel' link on the free and Starter plans shows the name to other video publishers.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers are mostly not buyers, but site owners and marketers who see the player might be. Test whether the link on free-plan embeds produces sign-ups.
- First customers
- Marketing leads at small B2B software companies, 10 to 100 staff, who host webinars and product videos and pay a video host today.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Post a cost comparison with real usage numbers and offer a free migration check to commenters.
- Marketing communities: Answer questions about video hosting costs in B2B marketing Slack groups and forums, and offer the compare tool.
- First milestone
- Five paying teams migrated from another video host, each running a month of real traffic.
Why people already pay for this
- Public claimSwitching to Bunny.net's video streaming significantly reduced video hosting costs compared to Wistia.
- Public claimExisting video platforms engage in aggressive upselling of features customers don't need.
- VerifiedWistia's pricing page lists 2 paid plans, from $79 to $329 a year, plus a free plan and prices on request for larger customers
- Public claimWistia states on its own website: Trusted by over 440,000 customers

RisksAI inference
- CommercialMargin depends on wholesale storage and bandwidth costs. If a team's usage is heavy, a low price may not cover costs, and cheaper hosts already exist.
- TechnicalReliable transcoding, adaptive playback on many devices and accurate usage metering are hard to get right and failures are visible to viewers.
- CommercialEvidence of overpricing is two public claims from one forum. Whether teams will switch for price alone is untested.
- RegulatoryHosting user video means handling takedown requests, copyright complaints and abuse reports.
- PlatformRelies on upstream storage and CDN vendors whose price or terms changes would alter our own costs.
