About this appAI proposal
Openreel hosts and streams video for independent creators. Every viewer gets speed control, quality choice, captions, loop and keyboard shortcuts with no account and no paywall. Creators upload, publish and share a channel page that loads fast on any phone.
It is for creators who are unhappy with feature restrictions on mainstream platforms and for viewers who want to control how they watch. Creators pay for storage, analytics and sales tools. Viewers can pay to support creators or remove ads, never to unlock basic playback.
The difference is a written promise: playback controls are not a product tier. The pricing page lists what is free for viewers, and that list does not shrink.

- Why this name
- Openreel: a reel is a roll of video, and open says the controls are not locked. Two plain words, easy to say. Trademark check still needed.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.

The material gives no competitor prices, only that YouTube puts some playback features behind Premium. These tiers are a starting point to test, not a market benchmark.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Creators share video and channel links, and embed the player on their own sites. Every viewer sees the Openreel player with its full controls, and a one-tap option to follow the channel.
- Do they become customers?
- Viewers who open a link can become followers or supporters, but may never become creators. Test how many link viewers sign up, and how many embeds lead to a creator account.
- First customers
- Solo educators and tutorial creators with 1,000 to 50,000 subscribers elsewhere, whose audiences watch at changed speeds and who want a second home for their videos.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Post a launch where the speed-control complaint began, and invite tech tutorial creators to try it.
- Creator communities: Offer migration help in educator and tutorial creator Discords and subreddits, with free import of existing videos.
- Creator outreach by email: Message 100 mid-size tutorial creators with a sample channel page built from their own public videos.
- First milestone
- Ten creators each publish 10 or more videos, and five pay for a creator plan within 60 days.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalVideo encoding, storage and bandwidth cost grows fast with each creator, and can erase margins on low-priced plans.
- CommercialCreators go where audiences are. Evidence of migration is a public claim from one forum thread, so real demand is unproven.
- PlatformMobile browsers limit background playback and offline storage for PWAs, which may weaken the viewer experience.
- RegulatoryHosting user video brings copyright takedown duties and content moderation obligations from the first public upload.
- CommercialFree playback controls could be copied by the incumbent, removing the main reason to switch.
