About this appAI proposal
Plainplay is a video player that runs in the browser and installs as an app. It plays video files and DRM-free streams you have the right to watch, at full resolution, in the right aspect ratio, starting on the first try. You choose quality, cropping and scrubbing; nothing is decided for you.
It also keeps a playback log for your streaming subscriptions. When a service shows a black screen, refuses HD or crops 4:3 content, you note it in a few taps and get a dated record to send to support or use when deciding what to cancel.
Plainplay does not remove copy protection and does not play protected content from streaming services. It is for people who want a player that respects the picture and the viewer, and a paper trail for the services that do not.

- Why this name
- Two plain words that say what it does: play, without fuss. Easy to say and spell. A trademark check is still needed before use.
In the first version
Members say which features they would use. It tells PWAS what people want; it changes no score.
First-try playback
Opens local files and DRM-free streams quickly, with clear messages and a fallback format hint instead of a silent black screen.

$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.

How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Users share a playback report link for a service, showing dated failures, resolution and aspect problems. Recipients are other subscribers, forum readers and support teams who open it without an account.
- Do they become customers?
- Report readers share the same frustration and may install the player, but a one-time view brings no customer by itself. Test how many report viewers start the free player and how many later upgrade.
- First customers
- Home-theatre and film-fan subscribers who pay for two or more streaming services and also keep their own DRM-free video files or home recordings.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and Reddit: Post a Show HN and join home theatre threads about aspect ratio and quality complaints, offering the free player and report page.
- Home theatre forums: Offer the playback log to enthusiast communities that already document service failures, and gather feedback.
- Search content: Publish guides on fixing black screens and wrong aspect ratios, linking to the player and report tool.
- First milestone
- 200 free installs from one forum community, and 20 of them paying for Plus within 60 days.

RisksAI inference
- RegulatoryAnything that removes copy protection or plays protected streams could breach anti-circumvention law and service terms. The product must stay limited to files and streams the user may legally play.
- CommercialWithout access to streaming services' protected content, the player may not fix the pain people describe. Many may want a fix inside Disney+ itself, not a separate app.
- PlatformBrowser video support varies. Some codecs, HDR and 4K output may not work in a PWA on every phone or TV browser.
- DataThe evidence is public claims from one forum. How common the failures are, and whether users would pay to log them, is unverified.
- Intellectual propertyThe name needs a trademark search, and reports that name streaming services must stick to dated user-supplied facts.
