About this appAI proposal
Pageturn Docx opens .docx files in the browser and lets you edit them without a Word licence. It aims to keep headings, tables, headers, footers, styles and templates as the file defines them, so what you save is still a Word document.
It is made for people who receive Word files but do not own Word, and for teams who fill in the same templates again and again. Developers can also embed the editor in their own product as a React component.
Unlike general online editors that convert files into their own format, Pageturn Docx works on the DOCX structure itself. Fidelity is the goal, not a claim: this proposal needs testing against real, complex templates.

- Why this name
- A page turned over to read or change it: simple, spoken in two words, and tied to documents without borrowing any known product name.

The material gives no competitor prices. It says only that Word needs a paid licence. These tiers are a starting point to test, not benchmarks.

What it could be worthEstimate
What a software business making this much sells for today, from real deals. Pick a monthly revenue.

Worth about
$194,000
Sale range $132,000 to $263,000
$120,000 a year in revenue
From 87 software businesses listed and sold on Empire Flippers in the last year, revenue vetted by the broker: they sell for about 19× their monthly revenue, most between 13× and 26×.
Measured on profit, the middle deal is 32× monthly net profit: about 2.7 years of profit.
An estimate, not an offer or financial advice. A real price depends on profit, growth, churn, how much of the work is the owner's, and the buyer.
How it would growAI proposal
How the product would reach new customers through its own use, and how the first ones would be found. A plan to test, not a result.
- Built-in loop
- Shared outputs. Review links and filled-in documents go to people outside the product. The viewer shows a small 'Edited with Pageturn Docx' line, and embedded components show it to the customer's own users.
- Do they become customers?
- Reviewers and recipients can see the product but may not need to buy. Test whether review-link openers click through to create files, and whether developers convert from the free embed to a paid licence.
- First customers
- Small software teams that need to show or fill Word templates inside their own product, such as HR, legal or contract tools, with one to three developers.
- Where to reach them
- Hacker News and developer forums: Share a demo with a public fidelity test corpus and results, inviting people to try their own hard templates.
- React and open-source communities: Publish the viewer as a free demo and answer questions about replacing closed or discontinued editors.
- First milestone
- Five developer teams pay for the embed licence after testing it on their own real templates.

RisksAI inference
- TechnicalNear-Word fidelity on complex templates is very hard: fields, floating objects, fonts and pagination differ across engines. The first version may fall short on edge cases.
- CommercialFree tools and Word's own web version are already used. Users may not pay unless fidelity is clearly better on their files.
- Intellectual propertyThe OOXML format is large and documented. Fonts and some behaviours may carry licensing limits, so substitute fonts and legal review are needed.
- DataContracts and HR files are sensitive. Customers will expect strong privacy, and local-only processing may be a requirement.
- CommercialEvidence is public claims from one Hacker News thread. Demand for paid use is not verified.
